ROTTWEiLER?

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

What do you think of this breed… No stupid comments, only people who have owned a Rottweiler. Also I wanted to add how does a PROPERLY TRAINED rotty act when going for a walk or being around unknown people ??
yeah cause it was either that or a doberman, but i heard that rotty’s shed alot so iunno.
Well a dog is a dog. yeah they have different attitudes and such but i’m not getting a "smaller dog" just cause its my first dog. Iam not taking it to any training class what a waste of money, i’ll just spend alot of time & effort training it at home, my question wasnt if you took your rottweiler to get trained or not…

My fiancee has a rottweiler and I have lived with him

On walks he does not try to attack cats or people. He loves everything. He is the sweetest dog I know and wouldn’t hurt a fly.

He isn’t really trained either.

Should I buy a Rottweiler from my neighbor?

Saturday, February 6th, 2010

I just moved into this nice neighborhood, and my neighbor says she is a reputable rottweiler breeder. I’ve seen a couple of her dogs (she said she has 8) and they look ok.

She offered me a puppy for $300, is this a fair price? Should I buy it?
I dont think she is a BYB because most of those just breed small dogs, like poodles and chihuahuas.

I knew this was going to happen with everybody saying things only about the designer breeds and saying things like all of them are coming from byb’s and saying how can we put a stop to designer breeds and not saying anything about purebreds or large breed dogs that you can get from byb’s. I’m starting to think that people don’t like small mixed breeds. It’s very sad! Any dog, any type can come from a byb. I have a Doberman that i got from a byb. Yep i went to there house met the parents of the puppies… I thought everything was great get the dog home and the next thing you know i spent lots on vet bills. Not that i mind cause i love my dog and i loved him from day one it’s just that i was mad at the breeders. So don’t think for one min. that byb’s don’t breed large breeds or purebreds cause they do. I would defiantly check really hard into them cause $300.00 is a steal. Something has to be wrong. Check in to any breeder before you buy. Sometimes people are tricky so be careful. There are good breeders out there so if you want a Rottweiler find a good breeder. You will pay more, but it’s worth it if that is what you want. Good Luck!

What breed dog would be most compatible for us?

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

I have done a lot of research on dog breeds and would like any personal experience that anyone has had. I have a small child (she will be around 2 when we get the dog), I am a stay at home mom. My husband will be traveling a LOT for work soon so I would like a good watch dog. We have a place with a nice size yard, but the dog will be an inside dog. I would like a breed good with kids (most are if raised with them), and a good watch dog the dog doesnt have to be a guard dog, but it would be nice to feel protected. We do not have any other dogs, however we do visit family often with several other dogs on acerage. Any personal experience would be helpful. Thanks for your time!
I have been going to the local shelter every week now. I am still doing research and want to make sure of what I want. I dont believe in just buying a dog because it is "cute" and it ending up in a shelter.

because you have a small child, i will recommend two things. 1) get a dog that does not require TOO much grooming. 2) Get a dog that was bred to be around children.

Now, with that said, i will suggest either a Boxer, a Doberman, or an American Bulldog. I have owned many working breeds and with the criteria mentioned above, these would be best suited for you. Because of the fact that he/she will be an inside dog, all three have short coats so the shedding will not be bad and hair will not be left all over the house to be picked up or swept up daily. Because you have a small child but also want a watch NOT a Guard dog, i recommend these breeds because they are natural protectors. The Doberman is the only dog in the world and in history designed and bred to be a watch/guard dog but with the adaptability and love of children and family still in tow. Boxers are known for their dedication to children as opposed to adults meaning that they prefer teh company of kids instead of adults but still accepting of their owners. Bulldogs just love their owners and are known for spending hours just laying down next to you or with you and sometimes on top of you. They have tendency to drool but its not too bad. With your small child, i recommend you stay away from rottweilers because they are not the type of dog that likes to be poked and proded as young kids have tendency to be and do. german shepherds are good but do shed constantly. What are some advantages and disadvantages of owning a Rottweiler?

Monday, November 16th, 2009

My other question was about a Doberman, but I think more of a hearty dog would be better suited–indoor and outdoor dog. My parents own a rottweiler and he does well outdoors. I’m thinking I could leave a Rott outside while we’re at work and keep in him other times.

Any advice about Rotts?

If you get your rottie as a pup he will do great in this situation. This is exactly what my parents did wit ours when I was a kid. I grew up with rotts so the person who made the previous post obviously isnt familiar with the breed, my dog was like my best friend. He wasnt even fixed because we bred him and charged stud fees, even then he was not agressive. So as long as its kept inside while your home and potty trained for its baby months that should be fine. But I hope you have a fair sized yard with a good fence, they dig. Be wary of any digging activity, it wont take them long to dig right under the fence.

How to train my chihuahua from getting aggressive towards young children?

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

Hi everyone, my chihuahua is slightly past 1 year old and starts growling at kids and tries to lunge at them when he sees them on the streets. Is there a way to stop this behavior and what causes this behavior?

Thanks for taking time to read this!

Yes, this can be fixed, though it sounds like typical chihuahua!
Chihuahuas know they are small, but they are not wimps. So they make it their policy to intimidate anybody larger. A lot of small dogs do this. It’s pretty effective to keep from being bullied.
First you need the dog to obey you. Your dog should be able to obey "sit," "stay," "heel," and "down." If you can’t teach these behaviors on your own, invest in an obedience class. A lot of chihuahua owners are scared to discipline such a tiny dog, and end up with Dogzilla. Sure they aren’t as dangerous as an aggressive Doberman, but still…..
So when you take the dog for a walk and it starts to threaten children, make it sit. Insist upon this. Your dog may be stubborn, but you have to enforce your will. Tell your dog how good he is for sitting. Whenever he doesn’t threaten children, tell him how great he is! Take him to watch children at the park. Tell him how cute the kids are and how good he is for being a good dog. When he’s being nonaggressive with children, give him treats. If he growls, barks, or lunges, make him sit immediately.
Now if you know any children that could help, that would be good. Take the dog outside and off your property at first, and let him get used to the children. Have them talk to him. When he’s ready, let them give him treats or pet him. When he finds out that children can give him treats, this will help his attitude a lot. Tell him how nice the kids are and how good he is. Also, if he likes toys, let a child play with the toy briefly, and then give it to the dog. You might have a certain toy the dog can have only when a child is around.
Carry some treats with you when you go for a walk. Then if you think the dog is ready, you can let children give him treats or pet him.
Basically this is the idea. Teach him that he loses freedom when he threatens kids, but he wins praise and treats when he doesn’t. In fact, he gets more treats and fun when children are around.
Of course you have to be careful around children. Your dog is right in thinking that a child could hurt him even by accident, being so big; so make sure that doesn’t happen.

Chihuahua VS Doberman

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

http://www.ramseyandpablo.blogspot.com/
DISCLAIMER: My Doberman would NEVER hurt my chihuahua. They do this to each other every time one of them has something the other wants. Usually my Chihuahua steals whatever my Doberman has. This time he didn’t for whatever reason. Please do not comment telling me how mean I am or how my Doberman is going to eat my Chihuahua because she’s not. Do you honestly think I would put either of my dogs in any danger?

Thanks,

Chad
