Golden Retriever Characteristics – Its Heart Is Gold Too!

Monday, February 8th, 2010

All types of dogs love being in a pack; their security depends on their ability to mingle and communicate with the other dogs in the group. Over the years, however, the Golden Retriever has developed a closer relationship with human beings than with dogs. They can guide the blind, provide companionship to young children, and assist hunters. Thanks to their breeding, Golden Retrievers have evolved in such a way that they now need to frequently interact with people.

Golden Retrievers have a forgiving nature. They endlessly forgive all the mistakes their owners make. The only thing they desire from you is that you acknowledge their existence and give them a pat on the head. They love to please their owners; in fact, they are among the first three breeds of dogs to win the Obedience Trial Championships.

Since Golden Retriever’s love the company of people, it is of great importance that you ensure that they in close contact with you and your family. Include your Goden Retriever in any family activity that you organize. Normally, they don’t annoy you by barking. The only thing that makes them bark, however, is boredom. A stout, adult Golden Retriever enjoys adventures such as hiking, huntin, jogging, walking, and any other activity that requires physical exertion.

Expose your Golden Retriever to your kids ever since its earliest days and he or she will become even better with children. While this breed is very loving and friendly toward children, they can knock little children over and lick them all over the face. Your golden retriever might be great with your kids, but don’t leave your kids and your dog alone together. Your dog might inadvertently harm them according to its natural instinct if you kids accidentally poke it or pull its tail.

Golden Retrievers love water and enjoy plunging into it. If you own a swimming pool or a pond of some sort, the sight of your Golden Retreiver having a dip whenever it gets an opportunity will be a common one. They also love mud and will roll in it. It is quite normal for your dog to get dirty often. You will have to bathe your Golden Retriever every other day once it becomes an adult.

Ensure that your Golden Retriever gets plenty of fresh air, water, and shade in the summer. Heat is not really good for this breed, though they enjoy it. Take good care of your Golden Retriever in the summer and don’t let it exert itself, and it will enjoy perfect health even though the summer is at its peak.

How do I keep my dog from fighting with other dogs when she first meets them?

Monday, February 8th, 2010

When she first meets a dog she automatically tries to establish dominance. If the other dog is submissive, things are fine, but at times she just doesn’t get along with others–especially if it’s an adult dog. Is there a way that I can be the dominant one and keep her from doing this with other dogs or do I just need to let the dogs work it out.

find an obedience school that specializes in aggressive dogs.

How much does a french bulldog puppy cost?

Sunday, January 24th, 2010

I’m trying to buy a French bulldog. What should I know about one and where can I get a good one in the Philadelphia area?

http://www.frenchbulldogclub.org/ht/d/sp/i/229/pid/229 That should help to find a breeder in your area. As for prices, you’re probably looking at around $1000 or somewhere in the area. Unless of course you go through rescue, but it’ll most likely be an adult. Just don’t buy from a pet store, as you’ll only be supporting puppy mills.

What kind of dog is okay/good to have around pet birds?

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

I am very familiar with birds but not very experienced with dogs. As a child, I had 3 dogs (mixed species) who were really good around our birds. However, as an adult, I have never had a dog around my birds. I’d like to get a dog someday and prefer bigger dogs than little dogs. If anyone can help answer this question, I would truly appreciate it. Thanks!

It really depends on the dog, not the breed. But as someone said earlier, get a young dog, so it can grow up getting used to being around them. Or get one that is already used to birds. No matter what you get, you will have to keep a close eye on them at all times for a while, til they are used to each other. german shepherds are really smart, obedient, and easily trained. I have a german shepherd, and 10 birds, they all get along great. My birds have the run of the house during the day, and I often find them curled up on the floor with my dog asleep together. I am very fortunate in this way. Whatever you choose to get though, just be careful. And introduce them slowly.

How much would you pay for a chihuahua?

Sunday, November 8th, 2009

This chihuahua is purebred (has no papers) and is 1 and a half years old (adult). She is three pounds and is very healthy and beautiful, amazing temperament, but has only had ONE set of shots (so she still needs two more sets of shots). The owner is my co-worker, and she has to get rid of the dog because she has only had it for four months and it is stressing out her other chihuahua. She got it straight from a breeder. She is asking $450 for the dog. Is this a reasonable price? What would you pay for this dog?
I also wanted to add that we’ve had the chi in our home for a week to test her out, and she is doing great, so I know that she has already bonded to us! :)

Also, we live in the New York City area, where chihuahua puppies usually run $800-$1600.

I wouldn’t own a chihuahua.. but I think thats way too much for a dog that is that old and without papers! Look around for another one on craigslist and see what other people are asking.

How much puppies can a Cocker Spaniel have?

Sunday, November 8th, 2009

What’s the minimum and maximum of puppies could an adult Cocker Spaniel have? I want to make sure if I can take care half of them and the other half to my cousins (of the total number of puppies). It would be hard work but I don’t want to sell them to the pet stores. No way would I do that.

how much wood could a wood chuck chuck if a wood chuck would chuck wood.

Ranges from 1-7 averaging 5

How much more care does a chihuahua puppy require than an adult?

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

I’m planning on adopting a chihuahua soon and she will be able to come home with me in February. I will be going to school three days a week for a few hours. I understand that a chihuahua is okay for a few hours on it’s own, but is it any different when it is a puppy of 12 weeks? Will there have to be someone there with it ALL the time until it is older or will it be okay? Also if anyone has any experiences with raising a puppy i would appreciate advice. Thanks!
I really appreciate the advice i’m getting, but if anyone could i’d appreciate more on the main question. Would a young puppy of 12 weeks be able to be alone while i’m at school? I’ve heard they need to be taken out to pee almost every hour.

hello! Great choice of dogs! As you can tell from my name I am a big chihuahua fan. I have been raising them for over 8 yrs. The main thing with a chihuahua is to make sure they don’t get low blood sugar(hypoglycemia). The best way to prevent this is to free feed them, leave their food out in front of them all day. They eat small meals, but eat often..They are fine if left for a few hours a day, just like any dog. They are very fragile. You have to watch where you walk, sit, or lay down. They like to climb too and can easily hurt a leg by faloling off the back of a chair or couch, or out of your arms. It is best to leave them in an x-pen while you are at school. Here is a link to what I am talking about.

They are big enough to hold a bed, water/food bowls, puppy pad or even a litter box. Enjoy your new puppy when you get it!
